River Of Phantoms - Art by Frank Redondo

Let’s do one more story from Ghost No. 43, October 1975: "River of Phantoms" was written by Carl Wessler (who worked in the Atlas and Harvey bullpens as well as penning tales for DC’s horror titles). I love the artwork in this one, particularly the splash page. Frank Redondo is the artist responsible for these beautiful pages.

"Three Corpses on a Rope" - Art by Lee Elias

Today we have a number from Ghosts No. 43, October 1975 with a really cool title: "Three Corpses On A Rope." The writer for this tale is the late Carl Wessler, and a finely crafted tale it is. Channeling John Doone (Never send to know for whom the bell tolls . . . ); Wessler pens an atmospheric gem. Perfectly complementing the Gothic script is artwork by Lee Elias.

Art of Gerry Talaok - Weird War Tales, 1974

This brisk four-pager, "The Phantom Bowmen of Crecy," comes from Weird War Tales No. 29 Sept. 1974. The script was handled by Jack Oleck, with art by Gerry Talaoc. I've always loved the stuff Talaoc did for this title and Star Spangled War Stories. He has a near cartoony style at times, yet in a single panel he can capture the smoking panorama of a war-field.

"DOG FOOD" - art by Ramona Fradon

For our first post let's go with one of my favorite DC artists of all time, Ramona Fradon. Her elegant, smooth style defined Aquaman in the early going. She had a cinematic eye that stands up well in any era. This story, which was penned by Michael Fleisher, comes from House of Mystery No. 239, February-March, 1976.
